Welcome to the UPEI Download Centre. In the very near future, this site will provide downloadable files of UPEI Visual Identity elements suitable for use in print and web applications.
jpg and jpeg — joint photographic expert group — a file format for photographs on web pages. The "jpg" format compresses large photo files so they don't take up as many kilobytes of memory. Widely used on the World Wide Web.
gif — graphic interchange format — another image format type generated specifically for computer use. Its resolution is usually very low (72 dpi, or that of your computer screen), making it undesirable for printing purposes. Useful for solid colours with no or few shadings and tones.
png — portable network graphics format — was designed to be a patent-free successor to the GIF format. Though not designed specifically for the web, PNG offers particular benefits in this environment such as improved image compression (10 to 30 per cent smaller than GIFs), two-dimensional interlacing, storage of text with an image making it possible for search engines to gather information and offer subject searching for images in a standard way.
pdf — portable document format — a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image which you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar products. To view and use the files, you need the free Acrobat Reader.
eps — encapsulated postscript — (vector) file format used to transfer PostScript image information from one program to another. The preferred file format for saving images, as it is resolution independent, as opposed to TIFF. Cannot be displayed on the web.
tif and tiff — tagged image file format — is a lossless format for storing image data. TIFF is a popular output format for scanners and other similar devices. Free viewers exist for TIFFs on most platforms, but most browsers lack direct TIFF support. Cannot be displayed on the web.
ai — adobe illustrator — native file format for images created in Adobe Illustrator. Cannot be displayed on the web.
