Dr. Robert Gilmour, Jr. Named Vice-President Research

On behalf of the Search Committee for the Vice-President Research, I am pleased to announce that, with the benefit of wide participation and interest in the process, the Search Committee has recommended to the UPEI Board of Governors — and the recommendation has been accepted — that Dr. Robert Gilmour, Jr. be appointed as UPEI’s Vice-President Research.

This has been a positive process, with an exceptionally strong cast of candidates. It speaks well of the reputation and future of UPEI that such highly qualified individuals stepped forward for this position.

I thank the members of the Search Committee for their dedicated efforts throughout this process, and all who have participated and contributed. We wish Dr. Robert Gilmour, Jr. and the entire University well, and look forward to continuing success in fulfilling UPEI’s research mandate.

Update from the Search Committee for the Vice-President Administration and Finance

Over the past several months, the search committee for the Vice-President Administration and Finance has received and considered expressions of interest and supporting documents from potential candidates for the Vice-President Administration and Finance. Four outstanding candidates were short-listed, two proceeded to the interview process, and interviews have been held. As a result, one candidate has been selected to deliver a public presentation to the UPEI community.

The campus community is invited and encouraged to participate.

Since the last posting (March 21, 2012), the search committees for the Vice-President Research, and the Vice-President Administration and Finance have received and considered expressions of interest and supporting documents from potential candidates. The candidates were short listed and interviews for the positions have been held. The committees were pleased at the quality of the candidates who expressed interest in exploring these opportunities.

The search committee for the Vice-President Administration and Finance will complete deliberations soon, and inform campus as to next steps related to that position.

Development of Position Profiles and Candidate Briefs

The search committees for the Vice-President Administration and Finance, and Vice-President Research, met separately with search firm consultants Ms. Colleen Keenan and Ms. Gerri Woodford, on Tuesday, March 13, to continue the development of position profiles for the vice-presidential positions.

The committees carefully reviewed their respective documents ensuring that feedback on position requirements, as received from members of the University community during a recent series of meetings and discussions, was incorporated and reflected within the profiles.

Further refinement continues. Once finalized, the profiles will be included in briefing documents that will be made available to potential candidates, and also posted to this site.

The work of the committees is proceeding on schedule and regular updates on progress will be available at this location.

President Abd-El-Aziz Invites Campus Input to V-P Search Process

The University of Prince Edward Island recently announced the formation and membership of two search committees seeking a Vice-President Administration and Finance, and a Vice-President Research—roles critical to the continued growth and success of the University. The committees met last week and will be assisted in their work by Ms. Colleen Keenan and Ms. Gerri Woodford, Academic Practice Partners with the search firm Odgers Berndtson.

President Abd-El-Aziz, chair of the search committees, is pleased to invite the campus community to attend an open meeting on Thursday, March 1 (noon-2 pm) in AVC Lecture Theatre C, to provide input on the necessary qualifications, credentials, accomplishments, and qualities of potential successful candidates. Members of the search committees and Ms. Woodford will be in attendance. The information gathered from this meeting on the challenges and opportunities facing candidates will be critical to the development of position profiles for the vice-presidential positions.
